As many as 14 people lost their lives in a bus accident in Uttarkashi district on Sunday. The bus (UK 07 PA 1127) was heading for Vikasnagar from Jankichatti. Initial reports indicates that the mishap took place due to steering failure. The Uttarkashi bus accident also left 13 people injured.
Immediately after the accident, the local administration launched a search and rescue operation near Damta. The injured were air-lifted to Rishikesh and Dehradun for advanced medical care. Six bodies were recovered and a search operation for the missing persons was underway at the accident site at the time of writing.
The bus fell into a 600 gorge, killing 14 passengers on board. The Uttarkashi district administration will be taking help of the Indo-Tibetan Border Force in the search and rescue operation. A rafting team of the ITBP will be deployed for searching missing persons. Uttarkashi’s District Magistrate Dr Ashish Chauhan said, “We will continue the search and rescue operation even at night time. The ITBP rafting team will be involved.”
The seriously injured were air-lifted to Himalayan Hospital at Jolly Grant (Dehradun) and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (Rishikesh).
