JIS Group Educational Initiatives recently organised its first-of- a-kind panel discussion at Park Hotel, Kolkata, recently on the issues ranging from tackling global terrorism to engaging in businesses of mutual interest and cooperation to education and mutually sustainable socio-economic development.
The panelists were Robby Wells, ambassador and spokesperson, International Human Rights Peace Commission along with Satish Reddy, international ambassador, foreign relations for the USA and Ajoy Kumar Ray, director, IIEST, Shibpur.
Wells has been an active proponent of his campaign “RiseUp”, which is about world peace and sustainable development of energy resources and believes in a strong revival of the American economy to its glory. Since, all world economies apart from their own inner struggles are facing common threat of global terrorism the issue is a universal one that needs dialogue and discussion to enforce practical application.
As part of the emergence of a new world, Wells wishes to engage India to further the cause of positive movements towards world peace. In order to understand the people who once belonged to India but now are American citizens, he has embarked upon this world tour.
Moreover, he requests for working in harmony and strong partnership in exchange programme. Speaking on this discussion, Ray highlighted the need that is to be fulfilled in the field of science and technology. He pointed out that along with environment, water resources must also be taken care. Healthcare and better system of transportation and communication are some of the other places that he focused in.
“Massive automation leading to huge unemployment is causing a great problem nowadays, and hence diverse kinds of researches need to be taken up by India with a global leadership of the USA,” he said. Another important issue discussed was the need to increase awareness about the sustainable energy usage owing to fast depletion of conventional fossil fuel reserves.
Wells was of the view that Earth is the only home for human beings and it is the duty of the present generation to preserve it for a secured future. He commented, “We need to have leaders that are bridge builders and not bridge burners”.
Wells believes that 21st century is the period of integration of thoughts of both the left and right wing. In the closing comments Wells said, “The US and India’s relationship should continue and flourish for the betterment and establishment of world peace.”
Roy emphasised on the issue of more researches to be taken up and concluded by saying, “humanity can only survive because of integration”
