Don’t let technology enslave you, embrace books: CM Yogi urges children
Organised in collaboration with the National Book Trust and the Lucknow Development Authority, the festival will run from November 9 to 17.
With advancing technology, one often takes many common gadgets for granted. So much so that one has grown highly dependent on them. From the smallest task to the biggest one, we need some assistance from mobile phones, laptops, computers or any other gadget. Those were the days when people could recall several phone numbers. Mental calculation was normal. Today, these are rarely seen, what with the advent of our gadgets. Of course, the gadgets have made our life easy but can also be highly addictive.
During a discussion on this transition, a colleague was not willing to accept that technology can harm. And he had a very convincing logic for it. He narrated how a few days back, he had to check the level of petrol in his motorcycle. Since it was dark, he used his mobile phone torch, which worked very well. He then recalled another instance, a decade ago, when mobile phone was not much in vogue. An acquaintance, who was running short of fuel in his scooter, had to check the level of petrol, to estimate how far he could go. With no mobile phones and not many people carrying a torch, he unwittingly resorted to the only other source of light~ match stick! Of course, he did not think of its consequences. The moment he brought the lit match-stick near the petrol tank, the vapours immediately caught fire. Everyone standing around tried to douse the fire, using their bare hands or cloth. The fire was doused without causing any harm. But juxtaposing the two scenarios, our colleague convinced his friends that technology is really a boon.
