He also shared the happy news on social media and wrote, “Always knew I’ll get a big opportunity in Bollywood, but never knew it’ll be in the shape of a mamoth debut. Thank you everyone for supporting and liking my work and especially @kabirkhankk for having me essay “The Iconic Bald and Beautiful Wicket-keeper”!
Earlier, Tamil film star Jiiva was finalised to play the role of former Indian cricket captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth and Punjabi singer-actor Ammy Virk was finalised to play the role of Balwinder Singh Sandhu.
Expressing his reasons for making the film, Kabir Khan had said, “As a young schoolboy, when I watched India win the 1983 Cricket World Cup, I had no idea that from that day onwards, cricket in India will change forever. As a filmmaker, for me, the journey to that win, filled with raw energy and sheer passion of that young Indian team, is probably one of the most exciting stories I have worked on. And it’s great to have Ranveer come on board to play Kapil Dev, as honestly, I could see no one else for the role, ever since I started finalising the script.”
Presented by Reliance Entertainment and Produced by Madhu Mantena, Vishnu Induri & Kabir Khan, the film will be released on 10 April 2020.
