Indian comedian and actor Vir Das is set to make history as the first Indian to host the International Emmy Awards, a milestone that places him among a select group of prominent global entertainers. The announcement, made by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, confirms Das’s role as the host of the 2024 International Emmy Awards, which will take place in New York City on November 25.

Sharing his excitement on social media, Das took to Instagram to express his gratitude and enthusiasm, stating, “Thanks to your support, an Indian Emmy Host. I can’t wait to host the @iemmys this year! Crazy. Thank you for having me. Tremendously honoured and excited!”

His post saw an outpouring of support from fans and fellow industry members alike, celebrating his significant achievement.

This hosting opportunity marks a major milestone in Vir Das’s career, which has seen critical acclaim, international success, and numerous accolades. He first rose to international prominence with his 2021 Emmy-nominated stand-up special, ‘Vir Das: For India’, a personal and humorous take on India’s culture, history, and politics. This was followed by his 2023 International Emmy Award win for his Netflix special ‘Landing’.

In addition to his stand-up success, Vir Das has built a diverse career in television, film, and music. His resume includes acting in international productions such as ABC’s ‘Whiskey Cavalier’ and Netflix’s ‘Hasmukh’, a dark comedy series he co-created and starred in. He has also appeared in Judd Apatow’s film ‘The Bubble’ and has ongoing collaborations with CBS Studios and Andy Samberg for a single-camera comedy project. Notably, Das is the frontman of India’s comedy-rock band, Alien Chutney, further showcasing his versatility as a performer.
