Last year Diwali saw one of the most anticipated bouts of the year as two complete opposite genres went to battle to reign supreme at the box office. While Shivaay was an action/thriller film with some cool action sequences Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was a romantic drama which marked the comeback of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to the big screen after a gap of seven years. Both the films managed to enter the 100-crore-club but there can be only one victor.

Winner: Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Son of Sardar (2012)

One of the most controversial Bollywood clash as Jab Tak Hai Jaan was a tribute to the late filmmaker, Yash Chopra, as the film released after his demise and was his last directorial. On the other hand, Ajay Devgn, who is popular for clashing at the box office, denied the request of his competitors to change the date of his film’s release. Yet again both the films were a huge a financial success but when battle for supremacy was over one film came out on top.

Golmaal 3 and Action Replayy (2010)

Seems like Ajay Devgn loves a Diwali release and is not afraid of anyone, who seeks for a clash at the box office. Both the films with the same kind of genre released on the same date but ultimately being a part of a hit franchise gives you an upper hand over your competition. Golmaal 3 was lauded by the fans and B-town for its comedy and performances of each actor while Action Replayy failed miserably to impress the fans and critics.

Winner: Golmaal 3

Om Shanti Om and Saawariya (2007)

Nobody would have thought ex-lovebirds Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone would go to war with each other with their first film at the box office! Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om had the SRK factor attached to it while Ranbir Kapoor’s debut film was a disaster. But nonetheless Ranbir was able to impress his critics and instantly gained a huge amount of female fan following. But when the dust fades away it’s all about making big bucks at the big box office, where Saawariya was nowhere close to Om Shanti Om!

Winner: Om Shanti Om

Veer Zara and Aitraaz and Naach (2004)

A three way dance at the box office is one of the rarest moments one can witness. But back in early 2000, when clashes were not so talked about things of B-town, witnessed three films releasing on the same date. Veer-Zara, featuring SRK and Preity Zinta in the lead, was a phenomenal success worldwide whereas Aitraaz and Naach didn’t earn as per the expectations of trade pundits.
