Shreyas Talpade, known for his versatility, is already making waves with his upcoming role in ‘Emergency’, where he portrays the late politician Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
This political drama, set against the backdrop of the 1975-77 Emergency imposed by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, will hit theatres on January 17. The film also stars Kangana Ranaut, Anupam Kher, and the late Satish Kaushik.
In a recent interview, Kangana and Kher discussed their collaboration on ‘Emergency’. Kangana, who is also the director of the film, shared her admiration for Anupam Kher, calling him the “hero” of the movie.
She revealed that Kher’s involvement was crucial to the project, stating, “If he had refused to be a part of ‘Emergency’, I wouldn’t have made it.” Kangana praised Kher’s on-screen presence, emphasizing that his portrayal of Jayaprakash Narayan was amazing.
Kher, in turn, showered praise on Kangana, calling her one of the finest filmmakers he has worked with. Reflecting on his own experience, Kher mentioned that he had lived through the Emergency period, having been in the National School of Drama in New Delhi at the time.
He acknowledged the extensive research Kangana had done for the film, noting that she had taken on the dual challenge of directing and acting as Indira Gandhi. “Directing the whole film and portraying Indira Gandhi isn’t easy, but Kangana did it effortlessly. She’s one of the finest directors I’ve worked with,” Kher said.
