Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer Thackeray, which is the biopic of late Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray, has minted over Rs 6 crore on the first day of its release at the box-office.

“Thackeray has collected approximately Rs 6 crore on the first day. Dominating several markets pan India, the film has also emerged as Nawazuddin’s biggest and highest opener ever,” read a statement from the makers of the film.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter and shared the Box Office figures. “#Thackeray has scored in #Maharashtra specifically… #Marathi version has collected very well… #RepublicDay holiday [today] should help escalate its biz… Fri ₹ 6 cr. India biz,” the tweet read.

The film, about late Balasaheb Thackeray, has been written by journalist and MP Sanjay Raut.

Directed by Abhijit Panse, Thackeray stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the titular role and Amrita Rao as Balasaheb’s wife, late Meenatai.

The film released in Hindi, Marathi, and English languages on January 25, 2019.
