Oscar-winning director Susanne Bier has decided not to return for the second season of the hit series ‘The Night Manager’. Known for her work on the acclaimed first season, which aired in 2016, Bier has stepped aside to let Georgi Banks-Davies take the helm for the new installment.

‘The Night Manager’, a British spy thriller adapted from John le Carré’s 1993 novel, garnered widespread acclaim during its initial run. The series, which featured Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Laurie, was praised for its gripping narrative and stellar performances. It won several prestigious awards, including two Primetime Emmys and three Golden Globes, highlighting its impact on both audiences and critics.

Despite the success of the first season, Bier has chosen not to direct the upcoming episodes. She explained that she has never taken on the challenge of directing a second season of any series. “I’ve never done the second season of anything,” Bier admitted. “I’d worry about how to approach it differently, which is more intimidating than exciting for me.”

Bier expressed that while she is open to the idea of directing a second season in the future, her instinct was to step away this time. She also emphasized her support for the new direction of the show, noting that she was pleased with the choice of a female director for the new season. “It’s such a male-centric story, so having a balanced perspective is important,” Bier said.

In addition to ‘The Night Manager’, Susanne Bier has an impressive resume that includes directing ‘The Undoing’ and the critically acclaimed film ‘Bird Box’. Her Oscar win came from the 2010 Danish film ‘In a Better World’. Fans can look forward to her next project, ‘The Perfect Couple’, which features Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber and will be available on Netflix starting September 5.

As for ‘The Night Manager’ Season 2, the show will continue with a fresh perspective under Georgi Banks-Davies, while retaining beloved stars Hiddleston and Colman. The shift marks a new chapter for the series, blending its established success with new creative insights.
