Sonam Kapoor starrer Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga is pushing the boundaries of Hindi cinema with a same-sex love story. The mainstream film, which has touched the subject of homosexuality, is running successfully at the Box Office. “Society, in general, likes to control who women or men love. They are ageist, sexist and homophobic. And you just want to control it. So, I think when there is a little bit of conflict in a story, it just adds something to it. Film and art is just a reflection of what is going on in the society,” she said.

The Raanjhanaa actress talked about Indian parents hindering the choice of children in terms of the people they love.

“There is a change societally. In India, how people have to let relationships and let love be. There are still so many honor killings, there are still so many people who run away from their house or are disowned by their parents and family. But at the same time, I think films and art is such a medium that it can entertain and educate at the same time. So society has changed a little bit but not as much as it should,” she said.

Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga has an ensemble cast involving Anil Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao and Juhi Chawla. South actress Regina Cassandra will play the role of Sonam Kapoor’s love interest.

The film is produced and presented by Vidhu Vinod Chopra in association with Fox Star Studios. It released on 1 February 2019.
