Singer Shaan was allegedly attacked by the audience during his concert in Assam. The 46-year-old singer was performing at the Sarusajai stadium in Guwahati on Sunday, October 28, when the incident took place. According to a Nagaland Post report, people at the concert started to pelt him with stones and hurl paper balls at him as Shaan crooned a Bengali song.

A video has been doing the rounds on social media where some people could be heard shouting “this is Assam and not Bengal”, even as Shaan tried to stop them and appealed to the ‘unruly’ audience not to “make this political”.

The Indian playback singer then stopped midway his performance and went backstage. However, as per reports, he returned to continue his performance after the organisers requested him.

On 30 October, after the news broke out, Shaan took to Twitter and opened up about the incident. “Just for the records …loved my Assam Tour!! Saw the most fascinating sights…made new friends..had huge turnouts at every concert.. Over one unfortunate incident it would be VeryWrong to Tarnish this Beautifull State!!! Whatever happened was in the heat of the moment,” the tweet read.

Later on Tuesday, the singer debunked the reports about stone pelting and said they are “complete lies” after a backlash erupted on social media.

“Complete lies!!! One Paper ticket folded up was thrown on stage by One Person after vigorously gestering and shouting to stop singing.. That’s all … please stop these wild speculations and lies,” Shaan wrote in his tweet.
