A lot has happened in the year 2018 in the entertainment industry. And incidents and people related to the industry kept making headlines through the year. Needless to say, people wanted to know more about them by hitting the Google search box. On Wednesday, Google India released its list of most searched personality of 2018 in the entertainment industry in India.

And the person who topped the list is Malayalam debutante actress Priya Prakash Varrier, who shot to fame following her ‘wink song’ ‘Manikya Malaraya Poovi…’ from the film ‘Oru Addar Love’.

The revelation shocked everyone as more famous and successful actresses of Bollywood, such as Priyanka Chopra, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Deepika Padukone and others did not make it to the top position.

The name scooping the second spot is a surprise too. The position was bagged by Priyanka Chopra’s husband and American singer Nick Jonas. While, the third position is taken by dancer Sapna Choudhary. Priyanka Chopra and Sonam Kapoor’s husband Anand Ahuja in fact finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

As far as events are concerned, apart from the Bollywood weddings of Sonam Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra, another wedding that had Indians taking to Google to read about was the royal wedding of American actor Meghan Markle who married British Prince Harry in May this year.

Talking about films, Bollywood blockbusters overshadowed Hollywood on the search list, with 2.0 starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar taking the top spot, followed by Baaghi 2 and Race 3.

And the songs that ruled the roost include Neha Kakkar’s Dilbar Dilbar, Arijit Singh’s Tera Fitoor and Atif Aslam’s Dekhte Dekhte from Bollywood.

But the major highlights in the industry remained two aspects — celebrity weddings and the #MeToo movement.
