In an interview, Ruchi Narain candidly opened up about the challenges she has encountered in her journey, particularly due to her gender. Reflecting on her struggles, she shared, “I’ve poured my heart into my work, but it hasn’t always been an easy path for me to navigate. I envisioned ‘Karmma Calling’ a decade ago. In fact, the script for ‘Guilty’ was penned seven years before it came to life.”
The process of bringing a script to fruition, according to Narain, involves persistent efforts and countless interactions to secure support and resources. “It’s not a matter of just writing a script and sitting back; you’re constantly pushing to see your vision materialize. I’ve had to knock on doors, attend numerous meetings, and time has slipped away,” she explained.

Narain expressed that her journey has been distinctive and arduous. She recalled an encounter with renowned filmmaker Karan Johar, who remarked, “Male stars are apprehensive about working with you because you’re a woman.” Despite her substantial body of work, Narain has found that her path often has extended timelines and persistent efforts.
Addressing the common question about the challenges faced by women in the industry, she emphasized, “It’s not just about being a woman; it’s about earning the trust and confidence of those around you. The perseverance required is immense. You need someone willing to take that leap of faith.”
Recalling her early days on set, Narain highlighted her position as the lone woman, emphasizing the gender dynamics prevalent in the industry. With ‘Karmma Calling,’ she stands not just as a filmmaker but as a testament to resilience, breaking barriers, and showcasing the unwavering spirit that propels her forward in an industry still grappling with gender biases.
