‘Girls Will Be Girls’ wins big at Spirit Awards 2025 for Richa Chadha & Ali Fazal
Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal’s 'Girls Will Be Girls' wins the John Cassavetes Award at the 2025 Independent Spirit Awards, making history for Indian cinema.

Actor Richa Chadha, who was last seen in 3 Storeys, has been roped in to play 90s actor Shakeela in an untitled biopic.
Richa will be essaying the role of Shakeela, who was a popular actor of the Malayalam cinema in the 90s, and will be learning the language for authenticity.

Shakeela has worked in numerous Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films, but she rose to prominence with her performances in adult Malayalam films.

The film will hit the floors in the last week of April, and Richa will be learning Malayalam to get the accent and dialogues right.
A source close to the actor shared: “Richa will be taking Malayalam lessons from a tutor before she starts shooting so as to get the right diction and to justify her character. She is very excited to learn the language and start shooting for this movie.”
The film will be directed by Indrajit Lankesh and will release in late 2018.
