Filmmaker Payal Kapadia scripted history after receiving two nods at the prestigious Golden Globes awards. Her maiden directorial ‘All We Imagine as Light’ received nominations under Best Non-English Language Motion Picture and Best Director categories. However, she lost to France’s ‘Emilia Perez’ and Brady Corbet’s ‘The Brutalist,’ respectively. Despite this, Kapadia is gratified over the opportunity and lauded her peers as they bagged top wins.
Following the glistening night, on Monday, Payal Kapadia took to Instagram to react to missing out on securing a win, For the unversed, the awaited award ceremony took place in Los Angeles on Sunday. After the budding Indian filmmaker attended the event, she shared a picture with the producers of ‘All We Imagine as Light’ while reflecting on the snub. In the photograph, she is posing with Thomas Hakim, Julien Graff, and Ranabir Das as they head to the Golden Globes ceremony. She captioned the snippet as, “We didn’t win anything but had soo much fun.”

Moreover, Kapadia also gave a shout-out to designer Payal Khandwala and stylist Indrakshi Pattanaik for her look. She shared, “And a special thank you to @payalkhandwala for this amazing outfit… and @styledbyindrakshi for being the kindest, smartest stylist who helped me feel so confident.”
Even though Payal Kapadia failed to grab a Golden Globe award, she outshined in the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Scripting history, her film bagged the second most prestigious award, following the Palme d’Or. The film tells the story of two women in Mumbai. One is Prabha, a troubled nurse who receives an unexpected gift from her estranged husband. The other is her younger roommate, Anu, who is searching for a private space to be intimate with her boyfriend. The two embark on a beach trip that allows them to find a space for their desires to manifest.
‘All We Imagine as Light’ features Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam, and Hridhu Haroon. The film is an Indo-French co-production between Petit Chaos from France and Chalk and Cheese Films from India. Janus and Sideshow will distribute the film in North America.
