Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia has reached a significant career milestone with her nomination for Best First-Time Director at the prestigious 2025 Directors Guild of America (DGA) Awards.
This nomination follows a year of impressive achievements, including her critically acclaimed film ‘All We Imagine as Light’, which was recently overlooked at the 2025 Golden Globes.

In 2024, Kapadia’s fiction feature debut ‘All We Imagine as Light’ earned her the prestigious Grand Prix at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, cementing her status as a rising star in global cinema.
The film also earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Director, highlighting her growing recognition in the international film industry.
Kapadia’s work continues to gain attention for its depth, authenticity, and exploration of complex themes. ‘All We Imagine as Light’ was recently featured in the Limelight section of the 54th International Film Festival Rotterdam, where it will be screened on January 30, 2025.
