Explore the evolution of ‘Panchayat’ star Chandan Roy, from initial reservations to triumph, as fans eagerly await the release of Panchayat 3.
Anticipation is reaching a fever pitch among fans eagerly awaiting the release of Panchayat 3. As we eagerly await the next installment, let’s take a stroll down memory lane to revisit Chandan Roy’s initial reservations about the acceptance of ‘Panchayat’ from the audience.
In the Amazon series “Panchayat,” Chandan Roy steps into the shoes of Vikas, the affable office assistant. When Roy first joined the cast, he harbored doubts about whether the narrative set in a small town would resonate with viewers.
The comedy-drama, directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra and written by Chandan Kumar, unfolds the story of Abhishek Tripathi (Jitendra Kumar). He is an engineering graduate who reluctantly becomes the secretary of a panchayat office in the remote village of Phulera in Uttar Pradesh.

Premiering in April 2020, the eight-episode series defied expectations. It swiftly became a hit and prompted the production of a second season due to its overwhelming response. Roy, embodying the character of Vikas, the trusting assistant to Tripathi, expressed his surprise at the success of a slice-of-life series in an OTT space saturated with crime dramas.
Roy is originally from the village of Mehnar in Bihar. He attributed his understanding of the character to his own upbringing in a small town. “Belonging to a small town turned out to be a plus point to understand the character and play it in an honest way, as I have seen that life,” he revealed.
One of the standout elements of ‘Panchayat’ is the chemistry between Roy’s character and Jitendra Kumar’s Tripathi. Roy emphasized that their on-screen bond only deepened over time. “When I first worked with Jeetu sir (Kumar), I saw a lot of his past work. And then we did a workshop. It made things easier for us to create that bond between our characters. Our chemistry is really good today,” Roy shared.
As we eagerly await Panchayat 3, it’s heartening to reflect on the journey of the cast and the unexpected success of a series that dared to be different in a landscape dominated by crime dramas.
