The film has Ranveer Singh playing Kapil Dev, the lead. Filmmaker Kabir Khan will direct the film.The actors who will play the team are still being cast. Some announcements have been made as far as the final cast is concerned.

Saqib Saleem will play Mohinder Amarnath, who was the Man of the Match in the final. According to the actor, he had requested Kabir Khan to cast him for the role.

Harrdy Sandhu, singer, actor and former cricketer will play Madan Lal in the Kapil Dev biopic ’83. This will be a debut for the singer-composer in Bollywood. Sandhu, who was a former under-19 cricketer, is set to play the player who took all the important wickets in the 1983 World Cup Final. Former cricketer Madan Lal was also the highest wicket-taker in the World Cup finals along with Mohinder Amarnath.
In fact, Harrdy Sandhu had earlier trained under Madan Lal for the Under-19 team and Ranji Trophy. Interestingly, both Sandhu and Saleem are former cricket players.
According to the singer, it was Ammy Virk who recommended him for the role. Virk, a Punjabi actor, singer and producer, will play Balwinder Singh Sandhu, the coach of the team.
Other finalised cast includes; Sahil Khattar as Syed Kirmani, Jiiva as Krishnamachari Srikkanth and Pankaj Tripathi as manager Man Singh. Mohammad Zeeshan Ayub, Tahir Raj Bhasin are also a part of the film.
The cast is training under former Indian cricketer Balwinder Singh Sandhu.
The film is expected to release on April 10, 2020.
