Mission Mangal becomes Akshay Kumar’s highest opening film; Batla House fails

On the opening day, Mission Mangal earned Rs. 29.16 cr alone and performed well at multiplexes and mass circuits both, reported film critic and analyst Taran Adarsh.

Mission Mangal has become Akshay Kumar’s highest opening film at the box office. An ensemble drama starring the likes of seasoned actors like Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Kriti Kulhari and Nithya Menen among others, Mission Mangal released alongside Batla House on August 15.

On the opening day, the film earned Rs. 29.16 cr alone and performed well at multiplexes and mass circuits both, reported film critic and analyst Taran Adarsh.

Akshay Kumar’s Independence Day releases of previous years include Gold which earned Rs.25.25 cr, while Toilet: Ek Prem Katha in 2017 earned Rs.13.10 cr, and Rustom (2016) earned Rs. 14.11 cr.

On the other hand, John Abraham starrer Batla House earned Rs 14.59 cr on the same day. The film needs additional numbers to make the film work at the box office.

Mission Mangal is directed by Jagan Shakti and follows the story of scientists at Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) who contributed to the Mars Orbiter Mission, India’s first interplanetary expedition.

While Batla House starrs John Abraham in the lead role of a police officer, Sanjay Kumar and revolves around the Batla House encounter and its aftermath. The film also starrs Mrunal Thakur and Ravi Kishan and is directed by Nikkhil Advani.
