Barbie sequel in the works as Greta Gerwig develops new story
Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach are developing a sequel to the hit 'Barbie' film, with early discussions underway as they craft a new story.
After the massive success of her Oscar-nominated film Lady Bird, director Greta Gerwig is eyeing her next major project with some A-list actors. The film adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s classic book, Little Women, would be Gerwig’s next directorial.

According to Variety, Little Women would ensemble a cast of some undeniable talent – Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, and Florence Pugh. Lady Bird actors Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet are also in talks alongside the mentioned actors. However, the characters haven’t been allotted to the actors yet.

Grewig was earlier supposed to create a draft for Little Women but now she has taken the directors chair. Set up by Columbia Pictures, the film would be produced by Amy Pascal. If plans work accordingly the film would go on the floor this year.

Little Women chronicles the lives of the four March sisters as they grow up around the US Civil War in the 1860s, dealing with dating, marriage, pregnancy, illness, and most other everyday things that plagued young women in the 1800s.
Gerwig’s debut film Lady Bird is a finely narrated, a known and relatable tale of a mother-daughter relationship. The film received 41 major nominations and won 13 awards in 2018.
