The screenshot from the trailer also credited CBFC chief and lyricist Prasoon Joshi, Sameer and others.
Activist and lawyer Prashant Bhushan supported Javed Akhtar and called the credit association “defamatory”.
PM Narendra Modi is directed by the Mary-Kom fame director Omung Kumar and stars Vivek Oberoi in the titular role.
The films cast also includes Boman Irani and Manoj Joshi. The film has been in news since its trailer launch for its cast choice, especially the main lead- Vivek Oberoi, its release on 5th April, a week before the general elections and now the controversy surrounding the lyrics-credit.
Social media has been reacting to Akhtar’s tweet, with some suggesting that it might perhaps be another Javed Akhtar and there are some who suggest that the former file a defamation suit against the filmmakers.
The film’s team has not responded yet.
