K-pop boy band BTS’ Suga is amid a controversy that is spreading like wildfire. After the K-pop star was caught riding an electric scooter while being under alcohol influence, the internet is buzzing with the rumour that Suga is going to leave the boy band and the septet will now only feature six members. Speculations stating a delay in the group’s reunion have also taken over. Following the speculations, reports have emerged clarifying the matter.
For the unversed, on August 6, while Suga was returning home on an electric kickboard, he took a tumble as he was setting up the scooter near his house. Following this, a police officer, stationed nearby did his breathalyser test. When found that he was driving under alcohol influence, the BTS member’s license was revoked, and he was fined. Moreover, it was revealed that no individual was harmed or public property was damaged by him. The BTS member also revealed that he was not aware of the rules for riding a motorised bicycle.
Clearing the air, an all-Kpop report has assured the ARMY (the BTS fandom) that the rapper will not be leaving the boy band, BTS. Industry insiders have revealed that there are no ongoing internal debates about Suga leaving BTS or taking any severe actions in response to the DUI scandal. Suga is deeply introspecting about his actions, and it’s very unlikely that the group’s planned comeback in 2025 will be delayed owing to the controversy.

As reported by news outlet Koreaboo.com, the BTS rapper’s blood alcohol content was measured by Yongsan Police Station at 0.227 per cent, which is eight times the legal limit. Following this, reports have emerged suggesting that Suga will now face a criminal investigation. Moreover, Suga could be facing prison or paying a hefty fine which could be between 10.0 million KRW (about 7,290 USD) and 20.0 million KRW (about 14,600 USD). The date for Suga’s appearance has not been set yet, as it requires mutual coordination. Further, Suga has not yet received an official request from the police and they have initiated administrative procedures to revoke Suga’s license.
A wave of panic took over the fans after a Reddit user revealed that the BTS member could also have possible jail time of 2-5 years on the cards, given the high BAC recorded. On the other hand, another user revealed that it was a miracle that the rapper didn’t cause any harm even while having a high blood alcohol count, a level which can even cause a blackout for most people.
Following the incident, both the BTS member and the group’s label BigHit Music issued apologies for his actions.
