‘The Indian Fighter’ actress Elsa Martinelli dead at 82

Elsa Martinelli, the veteran Italian actress, best known for her work in the 1955 film “The Indian Fighter” alongside Kirk Douglas, has passed away. She was 82.

The actress died in Rome on Saturday, confirmed Variety.

Born in the Tuscan city of Grosseto, Martinelli gained international recognition after working with directors like Mario Monicelli, Roger Vadim, Orson Welles, Howard Hawks and Elio Petr.

She made her acting debut in 1954 with “Le Rouge et le Noir” directed by France's Claude Autant-Lara. Her breakout role came the following year in Andre de Toth's “The Indian Fighter”, where she played Onahti.

The actress appeared on several other films such as “Donatella”, “Blood and Roses”, “Hatari!”, “The Trial” and “The 10th Victim”.
Martinelli's last role in an English-language film was as Carla the Agent in Eugene Levy-directed ensemble comedy “Once Upon a Crime,” in 1992.
She is survived by a daughter from her first marriage, Cristiana Mancinelli, who is also an actress.
