In a bold move aimed at addressing the recent uproar over the Oscars’ snub of “Barbie” in this year’s nominations, the Academy has released a promotional video featuring none other than Ryan Gosling. The clip, a nearly five-minute homage to the feminist-tinted blockbuster, stars repeat host Jimmy Kimmel alongside Kate McKinnon as “Weird Barbie.”
In the promo, Kimmel embarks on a journey to Oscarsland, encountering scenes from 2024’s most celebrated films before reaching Hollywood. There, he receives a pep talk from America Ferrera. The nods to “Barbie” continue as Ryan Gosling, donning sunglasses and a tie-dye “I Am Kenough” hoodie, makes a cameo appearance, casually sipping from an In-N-Out soda cup and holding a bag of fast food.
Kimmel humorously reminds Gosling that In-N-Out is traditionally reserved for post-award celebrations, referencing Paul Giamatti’s memorable burger moment after the Golden Globes. Gosling, nominated for Best Supporting Actor, responds with a quip about “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig, expressing confidence in her chances. However, upon learning of Gerwig’s absence from the nominations, Gosling lets out a dramatic scream, joined by Kimmel, Ferrera, and McKinnon.

The exclusion of Gerwig and “Barbie” star Margot Robbie from the nominations had sparked controversy among fans and industry insiders alike.
