The timeless allure of ‘Friends’ took an unexpected twist as scripts from two iconic episodes were discovered in a London trash can, having been discarded for over two decades.

The scripts in question hail from the beloved show’s two-part season four finale, ‘The One With Ross’s Wedding Part I and Part II,’ filmed in the bustling city of London at Fountain Studios in Wembley back in 1998.

The particular episodes etched their place in sitcom history as Ross, portrayed by the talented David Schwimmer, inadvertently declared his love for Rachel, played by the ever-charming Jennifer Aniston, at the altar during his ill-fated wedding to Emily, portrayed by Helen Baxendale.

The unexpected revelation occurred when Ross mistakenly uttered the words, “I take thee, Rachel,” instead of the intended “Emily.” As it turns out, this iconic blooper was a genuine mistake on Schwimmer’s part, as he had inadvertently swapped the character names during an earlier shot.

Adding to the intrigue of this discovery, the scripts were on the brink of obliteration, slated for destruction to prevent any potential leaks of the plot. Fortunately, a former staff member at Fountain Studios intervened, rescuing the scripts from their seemingly mundane fate.

Reflecting on the find, the unnamed individual shared, “I found them in a bin a couple of weeks after filming had finished. Ensuring tidiness and preventing any rubbish around was part of my job. I wasn’t sure what to do with them, so I just put them in my office drawer.”

Little did they know, this unassuming act of preservation would lead to a fascinating journey for these scripts. Initially projected to fetch a modest sum of £600-800, the historic pieces defied expectations, ultimately commanding an astonishing £22,000 (INR 2325195.40) at auction.

A total of 219 presale global bids flooded in, with the coveted scripts finding a new home in the possession of an undisclosed online international bidder who seized the opportunity to own a piece of ‘Friends’ history. The unexpected resurrection of these scripts, once destined for obscurity, now stands as a testament to the enduring popularity and nostalgia associated with the iconic sitcom.
