Do you remember the little Sikh boy in Gadar: Ek Prem Katha? Well, that little boy was actor Utkarsh Sharma, who debuted on the silver screen as Sunny Deol and Amisha Patel’s son in Gadar back in 2001.

Almost two decades later,  Utkarsh Sharma has made his Bollywood debut as a lead actor. His first film was Genius, directed by his father Anil Sharma.

How was it working on Genius with your father as the director?

My father Anil Sharma is my inspiration. His dedication and passion make it very clear for any actor to give their best. I have worked with him before and assisted him on films like Veer and Apne and also acted in 2001 film Gadar- Ek Prem Katha starring Sunny Deol and Amisha Patel.

Tell us a bit about your film Genius and your role in the film.

Genius is a battle of two geniuses — a beautiful love story of an innocent boy who turns into a RAW agent on a mission. While he is on a mission, he goes through various situations that keep the audiences guessing the end.

Everybody knows you as child artiste Jeete in Gadar. Did you always want to be an actor?

Initially, I had never thought of being an actor, but I was always inclined towards films. And while I assisted my dad (Anil Sharma) in a couple of films, many actors inspired me and encouraged me to become an actor.

What was it like working with Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Mithun Chakraborty?

They are both amazing actors and I have learnt a lot from them. It was great working with both of them. While Nawazuddin Sir made me very comfortable, Mithun sir guided me and encouraged me like his own son.

What are your thoughts on nepotism, the most debated topic in the industry?

Well, each one would have their views on this but I would like to say that I am quite fortunate to have a dad who stands by me in every decision and guides me with his experience. Besides, anyone can give you a role but only you have to fulfil that role.

What will you like to say about your co-star Ishita Chauhan?

She is a bubbly person and her heart is as beautiful as she is. It was nice working with her and our chemistry is definitely visible on screen in Genius.

Any new projects coming up?

It’s all under wraps and soon will surely know about it.
