Despite all the controversies surrounding the film and protests from Karni Sena, Bhansali’s period drama has proved out to be the biggest hit of 2018.
Padmaavat is a reason for celebration for many people attached to the film.
The film, which was released on January 25, is the highest grossing film for actors Ranveer and Shahid in their career and even for the director of the film, SLB. But what about the ‘Rani Sa’ herself?
Deepika, who essays the titular role in the film, has more than one reason to celebrate. Besides the unanimous acclaim the actor has received, Deepika is now the undisputed queen of box office with seven Rs.100-crore film (including 2 Rs.200 crore films, with Padmaavat being one of them).
Padmaavat has come a long way. From postponing its release date to facing serious backlash from fringe groups, the film surely deserves the moment of glory it has achieved today.
But what if all the controversies were put to an end long ago?
As per reports, Padmaavat suffered a loss of approx Rs 50 crore because of Karni Sena’s protests and the series of events that led to the film being not released in four major states of India.
Nonetheless, Padmaavat crossing the Rs 200-crore mark and emerging as the biggest hit of 2018 is more or less a proud moment for the entire team of the film in such critical time.
The film narrates the story of Rani Padmavati (Deepika) and her husband Rawal Ratan Singh (Shahid), and how she defeated Sultan Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer) by committing Jauhar in order to not get captured by the Muslim emperor.
Padmaavat was released worldwide on January 25, with a limited screenings on January 24, in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D.
