In the latest revelation from the world of Bollywood, the much-talked-about kissing scene between Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi in Karan Johar’s ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ has taken an amusing turn. Despite the film’s successful run at the box office, the buzz around it refuses to die down, especially now that Shabana Azmi has spilled the beans about some playful banter with her niece, Tabu.

In a recent Zoom interview, Shabana Azmi opened up about how Tabu, who happens to be her niece, playfully teases her about the infamous kiss. According to Shabana, Tabu mischievously remarks that she stirred up the entire film industry with that particular scene. Azmi humorously quoted Tabu saying, “Aapne hila ke rakh diya industry. Ab sab aapki age ki ladkiyaan keh rahi hai ke kiss hogi toh hum karenge” (You shook the industry. Now, all the actresses of your age are saying that if there’s a kissing scene, they will do it).

In ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, Shabana Azmi and Dharmendra portray characters who rediscover their lost love in the later stages of their lives, brought together by the love story of their grandchildren, played by Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh. Notably, Jaya Bachchan essays the role of Dharmendra’s wife in the film, adding another layer of complexity to the storyline.

Reflecting on the unexpected attention garnered by the kissing scene, Shabana Azmi shared her astonishment, stating, “I never thought it would create such a fuss! People are laughing and cheering when we do the kiss. While shooting, it was never an issue. It is true that I haven’t kissed much on screen before. But who wouldn’t want to kiss a man as handsome as Dharmendra?”

Adding a touch of humor, Azmi also disclosed her husband-lyricist Javed Akhtar’s reaction to her on-screen kiss with Dharmendra. She chuckled, “Oh, he was not bothered. But what bothered him was my rowdy behavior. Throughout the film, I was applauding, whistling, cheering, and shouting. He was like, ‘I don’t know this woman sitting next to me.’ I went insane with excitement.”
