Amidst the fervent promotions of their upcoming film ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya,’ Bollywood stars Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon have voiced their concerns about the rising trend of deepfake videos.
The movie, centered around an ‘impossible love story’ within the unexplored realm of artificial intelligence, features Shahid Kapoor in the role of a scientist who develops romantic feelings for Kriti Sanon’s character, Sifra, an acronym for Super Intelligent Female Robot Automation.
During a promotional event, Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon highlighted the potential consequences of the widespread circulation of deepfake videos in the film industry. Shahid Kapoor emphasized that the issue lies with human behavior itself, pointing out how individuals often project an altered reality on social media, leading to unrealistic comparisons and, consequently, depression. He expressed, “We are in a simulation, looking for an alternate reality, much like AI, which is as fundamental as a relationship. There is a distinction between man-made and god-created, subtly portrayed in this film.”
Echoing Kapoor’s sentiments, Kriti Sanon acknowledged the genuine concern surrounding deepfake videos. She noted the existence of morphed videos and highlighted the rapid progress in technology, citing the emergence of AI-generated news anchors. Sanon hinted at the possibility of having AI partners in the near future, emphasizing the swift pace at which advancements are occurring.
‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’ is a creation of director duo Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah, with backing from producers Dinesh Vijan, Jyoti Deshpande, and Laxman Utekar. The film, set to release on February 9, delicately weaves together the elements of an unconventional love story against the backdrop of AI and explores the thin line between the artificial and the divine.
As the Bollywood stars delve into the complexities of their on-screen narrative, their off-screen concerns shed light on the societal challenges posed by the prevalence of deepfake technology, urging a thoughtful reflection on the implications of our digital interactions.
