When a fan asked SRK to disclose the origin, the ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ star reminisced, “I think what happened is in Indian cinema, especially during the 90s, the dip was a real thing.” Giving a small demo of the step as the audience hummed a tune, the actor revealed, “I couldn’t do the dip. Because of this, I was quite ashamed of myself. All night, I kept practising it in my room. The next morning, I remember saying to my choreographer Saroj Khan, ‘Ma’am, ready?’ She said, ‘Yes, but as you cannot do dips, you just stand there and put your arms out. I did dips for her and she was like, ‘No, no, don’t do it. It doesn’t look nice on you.’ So, she didn’t let me do the dip and I had to put my arms out.”

Following the first instance, the actor encountered another difficult step as Farah Khan choreographed him and SRK suggested that they cut it out and he spread his arms. Soon, the actor found himself repeating it and he added, “Because I was using the pose so much, I had to do it more intensely and eventually, I made it scientific.” However, he wittily added that he was just fooling them and it was just the arms and no science.

Over the years, several celebrities around the world have done Shah Rukh’s signature pose to show their appreciation for the Bollywood superstar and it can be said that the pose will forever be iconic. On the work front, Shah Rukh Khan is poised to feature in Sujoy Ghosh’s ‘King’ alongside daughter Suhana, and Abhishek Bachchan.
