Rohit Shetty recently shed light on the challenges he is encountering in the casting process for the much-anticipated biopic of former Mumbai Police Commissioner, Rakesh Maria. This revelation came during an interview where Shetty provided a glimpse into the complexities involved in bringing Maria’s compelling life story to the silver screen.

The biopic, based on Maria’s insightful 2020 autobiography ‘Let Me Say It Now,’ was announced by Shetty in 2022. However, despite the director’s enthusiasm and commitment to the project, the casting dilemma has posed a significant hurdle, hindering the film’s progress.

During the interview, Rohit Shetty candidly shared the underlying reasons behind the casting challenges, stating, ”Kyunki kahani unki 1985 se Taj attack tak hai” (Because his story spans from 1985 to the Taj attack). The narrative encompasses pivotal events, commencing with the young years of the protagonist and extending all the way to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008. Shetty elaborated on the expansive timeline, acknowledging the necessity to cast actors ranging from young individuals to those embodying a 50-year-old character.

”So ek young boy se leke 50 years ka aadmi, wahan tak ki life ki kahani hai. Toh uski casting mein thodi si problem aa rahi hai” (So, his life story travels from a young boy to a 50-year-old man. Hence, we’re facing a slight problem in his casting), explained Shetty, encapsulating the intricate challenge that the team is grappling with.
