The entertainment industry is celebrating since Saturday evening after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced that the movie tickets costing more that Rs 100 have been brought down from 28 to 18 per cent.
Film fraternity including Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher among others took to social media to commend the move to reduce tax on movie tickets.
Aamir Khan wrote, “If Indian cinema hopes to compete in the world market, then we need the support of the government and administration. This is a great first step in that direction.”

Siddharth Roy Kapur, President of Producers Guild, in a statement said, “This will help the industry move forward positively with increased investments in both exhibition infrastructure and creative development, enabling even better cinema and greater screen density across the country.”
Filmmaker Karan Johar wrote, “Would like to thank our Prime Minister @narendramodi for the swift action on the GST rate on movie tickets….Great news at the year end! Thank you sir for your proactivity and support.”
