Sonchiriya, the forthcoming action film, has been generating immense buzz after the release of its trailer. The Abhishek Chaubey directorial looks raw and rustic, with its backdrop of villages of central India.
Bhumi Pednekar, who is the only woman in the cast, said she had isolated herself for 30 days to prepare for her role.

Speaking about her character, Bhumi told IANS: “Every artiste has his or her method and every character requires a different approach and for ‘Son Chiriya’, I required isolation. I took to a single-minded approach that saw me cut off from the world at large and be with my character to understand the mind, psyche and behaviour of who I’m becoming,”

“Until and unless I find the person I’m looking to become, I dont find my peace. I decluttered myself and lived with my character for about 30 days,” she added.
The story of Sonchiriya is set in the 1970s, showcasing a small town ruled and dominated by dacoits. The actors had to undergo gruelling preparations during the shoot, which also involved using rifles and guns.
Since the film is set in Chambal, the characters have Bundelkhand dialect. To acquire fluency, the cast was insisted to converse in that language on the sets, even during breaks.
In order to perfect the dialect, the star cast left no stones unturned to ace the accent and mannerisms of the post-Independence period in central India. The actors even refused to use body doubles.
Shot in the valleys of Madhya Pradesh, Sonchiriya presents an ensemble cast of Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar, Manoj Bajpayee, Ranvir Shorey, and Ashutosh Rana in lead roles with an intriguing storyline.
Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, it promises to be a power packed action film giving a glimpse of the eventful years of dacoits in central India.
Produced by Ronnie Screwvala, the film is set to release on 8 February 2019.
