At the center of the action is, of course, Manoj Bajpayee, reprising his much-loved role as Srikant, the ordinary government employee juggling his high-risk work.
Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee, who was widely acclaimed for playing the character of a gay professor in Aligarh, hailed the Supreme Court verdict that decriminalised homosexuality. Bajpayee’s Aligarh narrates the story of Dr Srinivas Ramchandra Siras, who had been suspended from his job because of his sexual orientation.
With the Supreme Court now pronouncing that homosexuality is not a crime, the actor took to Twitter and congratulated the LGBTQ community. “Congratulations to the LGBTQ COMMUNITY and fellow citizens.its a victory for all of us. Thank you honorary Supreme Court for instilling our faith in our judiciary and democracy.professor Siras must be a happy man up there,” he wrote.

Earlier, talking about his character in the film, Bajpayee said, “Aligarh was a very challenging film for me because it was fragile and different. It was very difficult to capture the loneliness and state of mind of Ramchandra Siras.”
Rajkummar Rao, who starred alongside Manoj Bajpayee in the film, also took to Twitter and wrote, “Historic verdict by Supreme Court today. #377”

Aligarh is a biographical drama, based on a true event, which took up the story of a Marathi professor, Ramchandra Siras of Aligarh University who was suspended on the basis of his alleged sexual orientation. Local TV reporters invaded his privacy and filmed him while getting intimate with a rickshaw puller. Rajkummar Rao essayed the role of journalist Deepu Sebastian who helped taken his case to court. Deepu becomes his friend and confidant during the fight against injustice but before his suspension gets revoked Siras is found dead in his house.
