Calculus can be quite cool
Most high school students dread the subject of calculus. This fear may be why even many smart students stay away not only from higher mathematics but also STEM subjects and go into Commerce, Psychology, Economics, etc.
The Fellowship is offered to students who have graduated, or are graduating, from an Indian University in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) program.
The University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa announced the launch of fifth Kalam Postgraduate (PhD) Fellowship in order to mark the birth anniversary of late APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India.
The Fellowship, named in his honor and memory of his 2012 visit to USF, is offered to students who have graduated, or are graduating, from an Indian University in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) program.
Application to USF for a Ph.D. program requires submission of a research proposal in any of the following areas – Applied Anthropology, Applied Physics, Business Ph.D. programs, Cell Biology, Microbiology & Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science & Engineering, Engineering, Criminology, Integrative Biology, Marine Science and Psychology.

The USF Fellowship is awarded to one student per academic year. Under the program, the tution fee for all four years and health insurance are covered. It also provides 12-month, $22,000 stipend, courtesy of the USF Provost’s Office.
Previous winners include Avijit Sengupta of IIT Bombay, Veena Subramanian of the Indian Institute of Sciences in Bangalore and Arjun Kadian from the University of Pune. All three are currently pursuing their Ph.D. research at USF.
Full details including eligibility criteria, deadline, and the application form will be available online on university’s website by Monday, October 21, 2019.
The deadline for the submission of the application form is till first week of February.
