A 22-year-old youth was shot at in the Sangam Vihar area of South Delhi. Refuting involvement of any gang, the police said on Monday cited a personal enmity as motive behind the shootout.

According to the police, at 8:30 pm on Sunday, a PCR call regarding a firing incident was received at the Sangam Vihar police station. The caller, Asif Khan, reported that someone had fired upon his Brother-in-law Nasir Khan, who was admitted to the Batra hospital.

The victim sustained gunshot wounds on his neck and is said to be out of danger, an official said, adding that the injured stated that two assailants, identified as Rahul and Sahil, had fired upon him.

Both suspects were apprehended from hospital as they were undergoing treatment there for injuries after being beaten by the public. They had enmity over trivial issues, he said.

The official said both have been previously involved in criminal activities.  Sahil was involved in three cases including one under Arms Act while Rahul was involved in two cases, all registered at the Sangam Vihar police station.

Reacting to the incident, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal attributed it to the failure of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to maintain law and order in Delhi. In a post on X, Kejriwal posted, “Amit Shah ji, please stop this. What have you people done to Delhi? Do something? Prime Minister, if Amit Shah is not able to do it then give us a capable Home Minister who can provide security to the people of Delhi.”
