The first unit of the 2×800 MW Darlipalli Super Thermal Power Project at Darlipalli village in Lephripada Tehsil of Sundergarh district in Odisha is expected to be commissioned in March next year, said NTPC regional executive director East II, Mr R K Srivastav.
Addressing a press conference here today, Mr Srivastav said the second unit of the mega power plant will be commissioned six months after the first unit is on stream.

Mr Srivastav said Odisha would be provided 50 per cent of the total power generated from the plant and the rest 50 per cent would be supplied to West Bengal, Jharkhand, Sikkim and Bihar. He said around 8 Million tons of coal would be needed to generate the targeted power.
The coal for the power project would be sourced from its captive coal mine and the nearby Bansudhara coal mine of MCL. With regards to the five decade old Talcher Thermal power plant, Mr.Srivastav said it would be phased out in next fours.
He however added that work is on to install a 2 x 600 MW plant with latest technology in its place. The existing township ,he said would be modified and developed for the purpose. The NTPC Regional Executive Director said the Sundergarh Medical College and Hospital being constructed by NTPC under its CSR activities would be completed by December next.
He said in addition to it the construction of 250 MW (1X250) of Banogaon Thermal Power Project in Kokrakhar district of Assam is in full swing. In eastern region-II about 3970MW power is under operation while 1850MW of power is under construction and 1320 MW power projects have been proposed.
