woman hurled a couple of eggs on to the dias as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was beginning to addressing a meeting at Bhograi here on Wednesday. The eggs did not hit anyone but landed on the stage. The police swung in to action and detained the lady identified as Rajeswari Kamila. Police said she is the wife of a BJP leader who had been arrested earlier as a preventive measure.

In fact several BJP and Congress workers were rounded up prior to the Chief Minister’s visit on Wednesday. The Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday visiting Balasore has inaugurated and laid foundation stones for several projects at Khaira, Balasore town and Bhograi.

Patnaik addressing public gathering at Khaira and Bhograi said that the state government was committed to growth and development as well as pro-poor measures. In Balasore town 69 activists including 48 of BJP and rest of Congress were taken into custody before the Patnaik arrival in Balasore.

A few BJP activists tried to show black flags but were prevented by police. The foundation stones for the projects which were laid in Khaira are 13.75 km road Markona-Gandibed-Oupada estimated Rs 25 crore,Biju setu on Kansabansha estimated cost Rs 6.3 crore, pipe water supply at Kalamachua estimated cost Rs 1.2 lakh .

In Balasore town Patnaik besides unveiling a life size statue of Biju Patnaik, at OT road, also inaugurated the widened road between Railway station and Church worth of Rs 3.4 crore , 50 bedded sports hostel worth of Rs 1.42 crore ,100 bedded hostel for SC, ST students of FM college worth of Rs 1.73 crore .

The projects for which the foundation stones were laid were bridge over Dubdubi nallah (estimated cost Rs 5.08 crore), pipe water supply (estimated Rs 85 lakh), rail over bridge near Sobharampur level crossing (estimated Rs 52 crore), development of park at Chandmari padia( estimated Rs 33 lakh), park at Kalyan Nagar (estimated Rs 34 lakh) and development of park at Gudipada (estimated Rs 38 lakh). Unfazed by the egg hurling incident at Bhograi, the Chief Minister addressed the gathering and highlighted achievements of his government.
