Rs 61,000 crore worth petrochemical project to take off in Odisha
Chairman IOCL A.S. Sahney met Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday to discuss progress of various ongoing and upcoming projects of IOCL in Odisha, said an official.
The forest range officer of Talcher, Trilochan Behera, said that after the incident the tusker ran away to the nearby ash pond of Talcher Thermal Power Station.
A wild tusker killed five persons at Shendhagaon and Santhapara villages of Talcher Thursday night.
Crossing river Brahmani at night, it entered the villages and damaged several houses causing panic among the people.

The deceased at village Santhapra was identified as Bhramar Samal, 60. The tusker killed him while he was sleeping outside his house.

Other victims are Kalia Singh (25), Anisha Singh (2), Kumari Sarati Singh (16) and Sunita Setha (35) – the first three belonged to one family. They were migrant workers living in huts set up on the outskirts of Sandhagaoan village, according to IIC of Talcher, Saubhagya Kumar Swain, who rushed to the spot in the night and supervised the rescue operation.

“The tusker had created havoc in the neighbouring districts earlier. We are keeping track of its movement,” said the forest ranger.
