The WESCO’s initiative here of extensive up-gradation work along with the renovation of power distribution infrastructure is progressing as per schedule, claimed officials here. “We are moving as per our schedule,” said executive engineer AN Meher.

The EE informed that, “Once both the projects are over, the whole district would benefit immensely as far as power supply is concerned.” In the upgradation phase, the WESCO is constructing 30 sub-stations of 33/11 kv for streamlining the power distribution.

“The whole project is being done in three phases and the third phase will be over by the end of 2018,” said Meher.

So far four have been completed and fully charged under phase one and two have been completed in phase two and are on trial charge basis. “Rest all the sub-stations are in different phases of completion and we would be able to complete those in time,” he said.

Once these substations are completed and charged the whole of Sundergarh will have a very stable power distribution system. “This is a very big district with difficult topography for that it is taking time,” said Meher.

“With two major (Rourkela and Rajgangpur) and two smaller (Biramitrapur and Bonai) industrial areas this upgradation was an absolute necessity,” said Meher.

“The renovation work is being done under the Integrated Power Development System (IPDS) scheme of the government,” said executive engineer.sss

Under renovation, intermediate electric poles are being erected near the old, weak and vulnerable poles. “Besides, the conductor or new wires are replacing the old ones,” said Meher.

The capacity is being doubled to avoid supply break down as the pressure on conductor will be less, informed Meher.
