The campaign for the nine assembly byelections has intensified in Uttar Pradesh with just 24 hours left to end electioneering before the elections on Wednesday.

Barely 24 hours after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s promised of a robust policing to ensure law and order, a newly married woman was shot dead after being robbed of cash and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees near Mataur village on the National Highway 58 on late Friday night.
The police are examining CCTV camera footage of petrol pumps and Western UP tollways to identify the perpetrators. SSP Manzil Saini said efforts were on to arrest the accused at the earliest and investigations are on.
Shahjeb, a resident of Mimlana road of Muzaffarnagar, got married to Fahrana at Nahal village of Ghaziabad on Friday. With the dreams of a happy married life, the couple was returning to the groom’s home with the family members in a decorated car.

The family had food at a roadside restaurant near Partapur on NH-58 and resumed their journey. As the family reached near Mataur village, barely a km from Daurala police station, the car-borne miscreants overtook the vehicle and forced them to stop. They took the family at gunpoint and asked them to hand over cash and valuables.
