A sub-inspector of Uttar Pradesh Police force was caught on camera interrogating and flogging a man with a belt after a family in their complaint said that the man had allegedly raped their teenage daughter.

In the video, the sub-inspector can be seen giving orders to some men to hold the ‘accused’ against a pillar, which appears to be inside a police station.

He can be heard saying,  “that’s how I beat such men (translated)”, while suggesting him to confess to his crime if he wants the flogging stopped.

After the video surfaced on social media, the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Mau police station acknowledged the incident and sent a report to the Superintendent of Police.

As per NDTV news report, the Class 11 student who was staying with her aunt in Mau’s Ghosi area, went missing on 13 March.

The girl’s family in their complaint said that the teenager was abducted by the man, who took her to his friend’s place and raped her for two weeks. The family in their complaint said that man abducted her after she had spurned his marriage proposal.

He later dropped her back to her house following which the family took her to the station to lodge a complaint.

However, test report of the girl couldn’t confirm rape and the man was allowed to go, police said.

An inquiry has been ordered and investigations are on, police said.
