Over 65% rise in students seeking mental health counselling
A rising number of student suicides has highlighted the need to introduce robust mental health initiatives time and again.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K.Palaniswami on Wednesday urged students not to take extreme steps like commiting suicide for failing to get higher marks in exams.
Speaking in the assembly, Palaniswami admitted that he was pained on hearing the news of suicide by Prathiba who committed suicide on June 4 for scoring lower marks in the medical entrance exam or the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2018.
Announcing a solatium of Rs 700,000 to her family, the Chief Minister urged the students not to resort to such extreme steps.

Scoring 1,125/1,200 marks in the plus two exams Prathiba did not score high marks in the NEET exam. Dejected with her poor score, she committed suicide at her home in Villupuram district.
