Preparations for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s one-day visit to South Dinajpur have finally completed, officials have said. Miss Banerjee is scheduled to address a public meeting at the stadium in Gangarampur on Wednesday, from where she will be inaugurating 70 new projects, including roads and bridges.

She will also lay foundation stones for 100 new projects in the district, it is learnt. According to district administration officials, Miss Banerjee will reach Gangarampur on a helicopter, for which a temporary helipad has been constructed inside the stadium.

From the same stage, the CM will commemorate three different programmes– International Mother language Day, Tevaga Utsab and Khan Utsab, where more than 100 beneficiaries included in different projects namely Sabuj Sathi, Niija Vhumi Nija Griha, Kannya Shree, Yuba Shree and others will be given the aid.

Following the public meeting, the chief minister is scheduled to meet administrative officials of both North and South Dinajpur in Raiganj. “The Chief Minister will be observing Tevaga Dibash at the Gangarampur stadium on 20 February as the day is observed at Khanpur village in South Dinajpur every year.

The district administration this year has decided to observe the festival at Gangarampur in the presence of the Chief Minister. The two day yearly Khan Utsab will also be inaugurated by Ms Banerjee. A separate stage has been constructed beside the main stage at Gangarampur stadium for the event,” sources said.

“We expect more than 50,000 people in the public meeting from different parts of the district. We also expect our respected leader to announce a number of new projects for the development of our district,” the district president of the Trinamul Congress, Shankar Chakraborty, said.
