Women, children among 8 killed as flash floods, landslides hit Jammu
The vital Jammu-Pathankot and Jammu-Srinagar highways have been closed for vehicular traffic on account of the damage to a bridge and landslides.
Fresh snowfall on the higher areas of the state has brought to halt the vehicular traffic on the Rohtang and beyond in Himachal Pradesh.
The Rohtang Pass situated at an altitude of 13050 feet, which connects Kullu district with the tribal district Lahaul and Spitiis covered with about 6 inches of snowfall.
Isolated places in the higher reaches of Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti district witnessed snowfall on Wednesday, which continued on Thursday as well.

Snowfall on the higher reaches has intensified cold wave in most of the parts in the state, dropping the temperature by a few degrees.
Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Manali Hem Raj Bairwa, said, “The road has been practically closed after the snowfall beyond Roghtang Pass. Today, I have also received the orders from Deputy Commissioner Lahaul and Spiti announcing the official close of Rohtang Pass, while the orders from Deputy Commissioner Kullu were still awaited.”
Metrological Centre Shimla Director Manmohan Singh has said that more snow fall is expected in the higher reaches of the state in the coming days.While there is no appreciable change in minimum temperature, the maximum temperatureis decreased by 3 to 4 degree Celsius during last 24 hours.
The lowest temperature was recorded at Kalpa – 0.2 degree Celsius in Kinnaur district while the highest temperature recorded at Berthin 22.6 degree Celsius.
