Restrictions were imposed in the Kashmir valley on Friday to prevent violence on the 5th death anniversary of Afzal Guru who was hanged in the Tihar Jail after his conviction in the terrorist attack on the Parliament in 2001.
The valley observed a shutdown on the call of the separatist leaders, Syed Alishah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik, but there was no response to their call in Jammu. The Pakistan based top terrorist Syed Salahuddin had also supported the call for the protest.

The separatists and terrorist organisations are demanding that the mortal remains of Guru, who was buried in the Tihar Jail, be handed over to his family in Kashmir. According to the police, the restrictions were imposed in old city areas of Srinagar, the uptown area of Maisuma and in some north and south Kashmir areas.
Contingents of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in full riot gear were deployed in the restriction imposed areas. Train services between north Kashmir’s Baramulla town and Bannihal town in the Jammu region were suspended as a precautionary measure.
