Jakhu, the name of a hill in Himachal Pradesh has received the season’s first snowfall on Friday much to the delight of the tourists from the country and abroad.
A thin blanket of snow covered the tourist hotspot early in the morning while other parts of Shimla received 4.3 cms of rainfall. Manali in Kullu district also received 4 cm each of snowfall.
The picture in the tribal districts of Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti is not different. Bharmaur in the district of Chamba and Nichar in Kinnaur received 5 cms snowfall each. Kothi in Kullu district and Khadrala in Shimla received 14 cm and 10 cms of snow respectively.
Other parts of the State have witnessed rainfall, marking an end to dry spell.
The snowfall has intensified cold waves across the State bringing down the temperature, which were however, above normal.
Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti districts was the lowest to have recorded at – 6.3 degree Celsius temperature. The highest temperature in Una stood at 22 degree Celsius.
The Met officials have forecast light rains or snowfall at isolated places over mid and high hills on January 14 to be followed by a dry weather.
