NHRC shoots off notice to TN govt over death of 2 labourers
The Commission observed that the contents of the media report, if true, indicate gross negligence on the part of the electricity department resulting in the death of two labourers.

The Registrar of Chaudhary Charan Singh University was attacked allegedly by some students on Thursday night in a restaurant close to the campus.

SP (City) Akhilesh Narayan Singh said that a student Amit Malik has been named in the FIR.

“We are trying to identify other suspects involved in the incident from CCTV footage. Action will soon be taken up against all those involved in the incident,” the SP said.
The incident happened at around 10 pm on Thursday night.
CCSU Registrar Virendra Prasad Kaushal had gone for dinner with his colleague Nitin Dwivedi to a restaurant close to the university.
Nitin takes care of the examination and result-related work at the University.
A group of students then arrived there and attacked Kaushal and Dwivedi. The restaurant staff rushed to help the duo after which the attackers left from the place.
University spokesperson Prashant Kumar also confirmed the registration of an FIR.
He said that Amit Malik was rusticated from the University on charges of misbehaving with staff and teachers. A case was also registered against him at that time.
“The other suspects in the incident are believed to be students who were also blacklisted and ousted from University,” he said.
The spokesperson added that Amit may have attacked the Registrar in his bid to settle scores with him following the action taken by the University.
Meanwhile, University staff has threatened to halt work if accused were not arrested immediately.
SP (City) has promised prompt action in the case and said that teams have been formed to arrest the accused.
