Rajasthan petroleum dealers defer strike after govt assurance
The state government assured the Rajasthan Petroleum Dealers Association (RPDA) review of its demand to reduce VAT on petrol and diesel by a high-powered panel.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said the reduction of VAT on petrol would give people a relief of Rs 1.40 to 5.30, and from Rs.1.34 to Rs.4.85 to diesel buyers.
Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma announced a cut in the VAT rate on petrol and diesel by 2 per cent.
The Rajasthan government charges 31.04 VAT on petrol, and 19.30% on diesel.
Briefing the media here after a cabinet meeting, Sharma said the reduction of VAT on petro would give a relief of Rs 1.40 to 5.30, and from Rs.1.34 to Rs.4.85 to diesel buyers.

The government will also remove disparities prevailing due to existing high VAT rates on oil companies and the market, he said.
The CM announced a raise in employees’ and pensioners’ Dearness Allowance (DA) by 4 per cent effective from January 1, 2024. This increase will give pay benefits in new DA slabs to 8 lakh employees and 4.40 lakh pensioners, he added.
He said it was one of the Modi Guarantees proposed last year before the assembly polls.
