Elated over Punjab school children’s good performance in ‘Khelo India School Games’ held at New Delhi, Punjab education minister Aruna Chaudhary on Friday said her government’s priority was to further strengthen sports sector.
While congratulating the sportspersons for the good performance, the education minister said the state government has strengthened the sports infrastructure at primary level which would yield further positive results in the near future.

Giving detailed information about the ‘Khelo India School Games’ the State Organiser of the sports wing of education department Rupinder Ravi said the Punjab players have performed exceedingly well in the concluded at New Delhi ‘Khelo India School Games’ held which were held for the first time. Sportspersons from Punjab bagged a total of 35 medals including 10 gold, five silver and 20 bronze medals and secured overall seventh rank. Sportspersons from 29 States and 6 Union Territories participated in these games.
He further said the Punjab won team gold in Men’s Basketball event and the other nine gold medals were won in individual categories. Out these, athlete Chanveer Kaur won gold in 200 Meters, Komal and Ekta won gold in boxing, Harmanpreet Singh, Manpreet, Mehakpreet and Jasvir Singh won gold in judo, Vinayak Verma won gold in archery and Arshpreet Kaur won gold in wrestling. In the team sports, Punjab Men’s hockey team won silver and girls team won bronze with men’s football team winning silver medal. The matter of pride was the Gold medal that the Punjab emerged overall champion in judo while Ekta Saroj from Punjab was adjudged the ‘best boxer’.
